Carnatic

Carnatic Music is one of the oldest forms of music that originated from India. It is one of the subgenres of Indian Classical Music and it’s predominant in the Southern states of India. Carnatic music owes its name to the Sanskrit term Karnataka Sangitam which denotes “traditional” or “codified” music.

The foundation of Carnatic Music comprises of 4 elements: Sruthi (Pitch), Talam (Rhythmic Cycles), Swaram (Notes) and Sahityam (Lyrics). Taking the elements forward, it brings us to the concept of Ragas, which are melodic frameworks based on Swaras, Gamakas which are ornamentations used to embellish the ragas and song compositions and Bhava, which are thoughts and emotions that forms the soul of Carnatic music.

Both Beginner and Intermediate levels of violin playing are offered for people who are new to Carnatic music or those who are already familiar with it. For more details, view the course structure below.

Western

Western music is one of several separate, highly developed musical cultures that find their origins in ancient Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Hebrew nations that were absorbed by the conquering Romans, who introduced elements of that Mediterranean music to much of Western Europe.

It has its specific theoretical base that encompasses its own system of tuning, scales, notation system, timbre and its particular approach to musical forms and musical eras. Western Music is generally tonal, based on major or minor scales, using an equal temperament tuning, has distinct meter and rhythms along with melody, harmony and improvisations.

Beginner and Intermediate levels for Western Classical music is offered. Students who are new to Western or those who are familiar with the basics can view the below course structure.
